An experienced technical architect and software developer, with a passion and an aptitude for understanding the use of technology to achieve results.

My experience of software development has included C++, PHP, JavaScript and Erlang and included such practices as Agile development, RESTful architecture, concurrent programming, object-oriented design and the design of distributed, fault-tolerant and loosely-coupled systems. In nine years of experience, I have learned the value of collaboration and teamwork and the necessity of focusing relentlessly on the outcomes of development projects rather than the technologies used to achieve them.

Lead Technical Architect

Projects include:

RFU Strategic Survey

• Designed the data model for a complex survey application which featured several levels of questions and responses, where each question could be partially answered and could also receive a written 'submission' response in addition to an option selection
• Implemented the project using the Symfony PHP framework, ensuring that performance and reliability was ensured. The site eventually received over 60,000 answers and 3,000 written submissions.

ERP Application

• Designed the data model and technical architecture for an Enterprise Resource Planning system, designed to model a complex order processing system for a high-end manufacturer
• Implemented the project using the Symfony PHP framework as the central server application, serving data using the REST architecture pattern and JSON as the data interchange format
• Implemented a Rich Internet Application client using Adobe AIR and jQuery, communicating with the server using Ajax

UCDCommerce

• Integration of new payment systems into UCDCommerce, including PayPal and Google Checkout

Projects worked on include:

Football FanCast

• Implemented a system for automatically converting audio files to MP3 format and uploading of these files to cloud storage systems (Amazon S3)
• Implemented social networking features including personal dashboard pages and personal profile pages featuring user-generated content

RealPeopleRealStuff

• Implemented a system for file format conversion of video files to Flash FLV format and uploading of these files to Amazon S3
• Created a feature to enable the easy creation of 'white label' versions of the site for commercial partners

Chimpogo

• Created a system that allowed for user submission of t-shirt designs, with user ratings and automatic promotion of highly-rated content
• Implemented a social network discussions system, integrating personal blogs and comment threads into a forum-like system
