User Centred Design / Metrolocks
Client Information
Metrolocks are a London based key cutting and locksmith business providing customers throughout the UK with a wide range of security solutions, ranging from locks and keys to intercom and access control systems.
The Objectives
Provide a new user centred design for the area of the Metrolocks website focused purely on offering an online key cutting service. A key requirement was to ultimately achieve exceptional search engine position performance to drive new business.
The Solution
- a complete restructure of the information required to focus different pages on specific visitor requirements
- provide assistance throughout the browsing and ordering process to maximise the number of new orders being received
- determine what additional content would benefit site visitors and therefore reduce internal resource in answering standard questions
The Method
- a new information architecture was developed, splitting the current 1 page content into 3 separate, intuitive pages
- on-site help was provided at key user interaction stages such as the online order form
- extensive internal linking was used to provide visitors with useful links into all areas of the site
- user information required in the online order form was presented in a structured and highly user friendly way
The Result
- a 100% increase in average visitor time from 60 seconds to 130 seconds
- a 40% increase in online enquiries
Client Comments
It became clear very soon that our firm wasn't PRWD's first client. PRWD really knew how to start the ball rolling. The brief we, as clients, had prepared was extremely messy, unstructured and reflected more our general desire to move forward in terms of our website, rather than any detailed description of what was to be done.
PRWD spent a long time to listen to and to paraphrase our status quo, our requirements and our aspirations, culminating in an elegant flowchart, which found immediate acceptance.
The longish preparation paid off handsomely, as there was hardly any change required in the final work PRWD produced.
This is, of course, not entirely unexpected, a good brief often leads to a good execution.
PRWD has proven a master in both, brief and execution.
For us, this initial piece of webwork was to be the test run for a wider-scoped redesign of our internet activities, a test, which PRWD has passed with flying colours.
We are looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with PRWD.
